Breath of the Wild is set at the end of the [Zelda timeline](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zelda_timeline); the player controls [Link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_\(The_Legend_of_Zelda\)), who awakens from a hundred-year slumber to defeat [Calamity Ganon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calamity_Ganon) before it can destroy the kingdom of [Hyrule](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyrule).
